After the exciting time of dating and engagement and newlywed bliss, it is totally normal for there to be moments where you wonder where the magic went, asking yourself, “is this actually what I signed up for?” We understand completely. You’re not unhappy, you are just wondering how to keep the momentum going and have the best marriage possible.
We have experienced these moments probably at every stage of marriage and have learned what it takes to keep the spark alive.
When you are first married and the newness wears off, maintaining that love in a new normal becomes the goal. Then perhaps you start a family or have some other life event that tips the balance of your relationship, and again you find a way to wrestle into a new normal.
It is super easy to get caught doing the same thing over and over again, even taking the other person for granted in ways that you never thought you would while dating and engaged.
Here is where we lean into our ministry focus verse – Jeremiah 29:11-13 – and understand that as we seek the Lord in the midst of the down moments, he will reveal how His plans for our marriage are greater than we could ever imagine for ourselves.
